The 10th Annual Festival and Reunion Almost Here

24 May 2010 10:42 am

That is right the 10 Annual Festival and Reunion is almost here.  The question is, "Will you be there?"  If you miss it, you will regret it.We have a weekend packed with thrills and treats for everyone.  Starting on Friday, June 4th at 6:00 p.m., we will host a Open House and Reception at the newly restored Promise Land School building.  We will start the festival day, June 5th early.  At the host hotel, The Comfort Inn in Dickson, yoga instruction will be offered by Majorie Nesbitt at 7:30 a.m. at pool side.   Afterwards everyone will be encouraged to get out to Promise Land in time for the Parade of Hats for Healthy Hearts.  This walk to benefit the restoration project will begin at 9:30 a.m. in front of the schoolhouse.  It is part of our health and fitness focus to encourage walking for good health.  Walkers should wear comfortable shoes and clothes while sporting their favorite hat.  Judges will be on hand to select the "prettiest hat", "fanciest hat", "fitest walker" and "the walker who raised the most money for the cause".  The invocation for the Festival and the presentation of the Proclamation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by our special attraction of the 50-voice "Promise Land Celebration Choir" under the direction of Sy Smith.
Other attractions will include; traditional country music singer/songwriter, McDonald Craig, contemporary Christian Folk singer/songwriter, Lydia Walker and the ever popular "Gospel Explosion".  There will be plenty of food, fun and fellowship for everyone.
The reunion will conclude with Sunday Worship Service on June 6th starting at 11:00 a.m.  The guest speaker will be Elder Michael Nesbitt of The Calhoun Memorial Temple of Columbus, Ohio.  Dinner will be served after worship service.

I look forward to seeing all who read this.

Peace and Love,
Serina

Members of PLCC Affected By Recent Flood

11 May 2010 09:01 am

At this writing, there are two known PLCC families affected by the recent floods which occurred in Middle Tennessee. Both families lived in the Nashville area. One family was PLCC members, James and Donna Bowins, who lived near Opryland. They lost their home as well as three cars in the flood. The other was Mrs. Julia Britt, whose sister, Barbara lost her home. Our hearts and prayers goes out to these families. Lets also keep all the flood victims in our prayers.

Peace and Good Day to all readers. Thanks for visiting our site.

The Annual Board Meeting: A Re-Energizing Experience

20 Apr 2010 09:32 pm

The 2010 Annual Board Meeting was a renewing, re-energizing and rewarding experience. From the bus trip to Ohio to the meeting, post meeting activities, banquet, worship service, fellowship dinner and the return trip home, I count it all joyful. There is so much to tell it is hard to know where to begin. The bus ride was comfortable and relaxing. I had the opportunity to watch some movies that I had never seen and of course there was plenty of eating, talking and laughing that took place. The check-in at the Ramada went very smoothly and the hotel stay and amenities were very satisfying.

On Saturday morning, the Board, members and officers convened in the meeting room. After the exchange of greetings and devotion the meeting was underway. The committee reports reflexed the work and accomplishments achieved over the past year. This year the
Board adapted a lifetime membership payment for its members. The lifetime membership payment is $500. This action comes at a good time as revenue is greatly needed by the PLCC as we work to complete the interior renovation of the historic Promise Land School in time for the 10th Anniversary Reunion/Festival Weekend.

After the meeting some of the Board Members and guests visited Marjorie Nesbitt's yoga spa in downtown Columbus. There they were treated to yoga demonstrations. Those who didn't go were appraised of how invigorating the demonstrations were and how impressed they were with the facilities in general. Others went on a shopping trip. We all returned to the hotel and boarded the bus to the Ironwood Condominum Community Room to a banquet hosted by the Board Chair, Sokoto Fulani and the members of the Columbus Chapter of the PLCC. There we were treated to a delicious and plentiful meal as well as lots of fun and fellowship

Sunday morning we checked out of the hotel and boarded the bus for Newark, Ohio where we attended worship services at the Trinity AME Church. Thrinity's pastor, Rev. Menifield welcomed us as did the congregation. There were many vistors from other churches there. They all represented the Promise Land Community either by birth, blood or bond. Rev. Michael Nesbitt delivered an inspiring sermon entitled "Time After Time". Due to a death in his family, St. John Promise Land Church Pastor, Rev. Willie C. Tyson was unable to attend as planned. After services we enjoyed another delicious meal in the fellowship hall of the church. After church the bus took us to R and Cole Apparel Store located just a short distance from the church in downtown Newark. This store is owned and operated by PLCC members Hubert Robertson and his sister Birdie Cole. We really enjoyed browsing and selected clothing items for purchase. Afterwards we reboarded the bus and headed back to Tennessee.

What a time we had! As National Coordinator, on behalf of all the travelers to the Annual Board Meeting, I wish to thank the members of the Columbus PLCC Chapter for the outstanding job that they did in hosting the annual meeting. We appreciated all that you did including the gift bags, the meals and the outings to make our visit to your fair city a memorable experience.
